A Surprise Holiday

A Surprise Holiday

Greetings from sunny Brighton… and for once I’m not being sarcastic. It really is glorious. I’m happy now that Mr Divine sprung this break on me. We’ve not been away alone as a couple for a long time. When the kids were little, the grandparents loved having them to stay and we got away on a fairly regular basis. As they grew up and got less inclined to spend time with the oldies, those weekends away just no longer happened.

Luckily, the kids are now at an age where they want to spend time away from the parents and are quite happy to go and visit the grandparents as long as they can take all their electrical gadgets with them. I hadn’t expected to be going anywhere myself – in fact, I was planning to spend the weekend getting into the kids’ rooms and having a good sort out, but my husband had other plans.

He packed us off to the seaside and at first I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it, the last time I’d been to Brighton it had rained lots, I got food poisoning and had to go home early. After a few hours on the beach, cold drink in hand and husband by my side, I’d changed my mind. I remembered another time on a beach when we were simply dating. We were young, in love and oblivious to the other people around us. We disappeared behind a rock on a quiet area of sand and made love. It was amazing but I was pulling sand out of places I don’t want to mention for days afterwards.

We didn’t ruck up the sand, but we did mess up the sheets in our fancy boutique hotel remembering that time on the beach, not sure if someone would catch us at any moment. There is something special about having sex in a bed that isn’t your own… it’s a bit naughty and a lot of fun. When I go away from my usual stomping ground I feel freer and less tied down by what others expect me to be. Not that I hate being a mum or a co-worker or a wife, but sometimes it’s fun to forget all those roles and just go a little crazy.

It’s good to reconnect with my husband. We’re always on high alert as parents at home but here, with our kids in good hands, we’re free to just concentrate on each other. We talk about nothing serious, reminisce about loving times past and touch each other. We don’t even hold hands much at home, the kids find it terribly embarrassing and kissing in their presence is definitely a no. It’s wonderful to be able to touch and kiss and behave like honeymooners for a while. It reminds me how lucky I am to have such an amazing and loving husband.

Okay, I’ll go now before I gush too much, I can’t help it though. Mr Divine is hot!
