Background

Being married for 25 years she understands the effects that motherhood and the menopause can have upon relationships and sexual intimacy, she has experienced her own sexual health issues and as a mum of three children she is aware of the varied quality and often poor standard of sex education in schools in the UK.

As a former nurse, she understands that many healthcare professionals receive little or no training about how to advise their patients about enjoying sexual intimacy and pleasure in site of many medical and surgical interventions and health conditions and diseases impacting upon sexual health, function, intimacy and pleasure and would really like to see talking about sex on the medical and nursing curriculum.

She has written extensively for Jo Divine and the press and has featured on radio, including BBC Woman’s Hour and the Channel 5 programme “How To have A Better Orgasm” and recently Davina McCall “Sex, Myths and the Menopause” on Channel 4 where she and Davina chatted about sex and much more!

Sexual Pleasure

Having extensive knowledge about sex toys, Samantha enjoys creating informative articles about sexual health and pleasure, which endeavour to normalise sex and help people to talk about it. From sex after cancer, exploring new ways to enjoy sexual pleasure to enjoying a G-spot orgasm and sex beyond penetration, she has created many articles offering simple practical advice that can help people enjoy better sexual pleasure.

Samantha is always looking at ways in which people can take control of their sexual health to increase their sexual pleasure and general well-being. Whoever you are, she believes that it is always possible to find ways in which to enjoy sex by being imaginative, adventurous and making it fun, whatever your age, health condition, disability or sexual orientation.

Being 55 and in menopause, Samantha works hard to ensure anyone going through the perimenopause, menopause and beyond can continue to enjoy good sexual intimacy and pleasure if they wish to. No one has to give up on enjoying pleasurable sex when there is practical advice, skin safe products and irritant free sexual lubricants and moisturisers that can transform your intimate health and sexual pleasure.

Television Work

Channel 4: Davina McCall Sex, Myths and the Menopause where Sam and Davina had a fabulous chat about sex, orgasms, why ingredients matter when it comes to using lubricants and moisturisers and why they both want to be like our 95-year-old customers still enjoying pleasurable orgasms! Davina even mentioned a goat!

“Thank you so much Davina for making it so easy to chat and so much fun too!

A huge “Thank You” goes to the fabulous Kate Muir Instagram Instagram: @muirka (our chat about this programme and your book seems such a long time ago), the brilliant producers and all the team who worked hard to get this programme on screen to raise awareness about the huge problems many people face when trying to access menopause care, advice and support to get the right treatment.

Lack of menopause education within medical, gynaecology and GP training has led to widespread misinformation about HRT and local oestrogen with incorrect non-evidenced based advice and treatment options given to so many people, an issue I often hear through my work

I’m really proud to be part of this programme and I hope it helps many people struggling with debilitating symptoms, as well as their partners, children, family, friends and work colleagues. Huge shout out to all the wonderful people who took part, sharing their expertise, personal experiences, time and passion to educate, inform and dispel the myths surrounding the menopause.”

The response to the programme has been overwhelmingly positive, with many talking to their GP about HRT. It has encouraged more people of all ages to talk about menopause to educate themselves. Many people have bought their first sex toy, and we have so many remarkable conversations about choosing a good irritant free lubricant, vaginal moisturiser and sex toys, our products have flown off the shelves and continue to do so as people discover our website.

Samantha is part of a huge community of passionate people and activists campaigning for better menopause training for medical and nursing professionals and support in the workplace because menopause doesn’t just impact those going through it but their partners, children, family, friends and work colleagues which is why we need to educate and inform everyone. 51% of the population will go through menopause, and you can help by signing the Make Menopause Matter Campaign petition created by my wonderful friend Diana Danzebrink, a tireless menopause campaigner. The first aim of the campaign has been achieved, and menopause will now be taught on the PSHE curriculum in schools from September 2020.

If you are a person who will go through the menopause, love or care about or work with someone who will go through the menopause, please sign the petition.

They helped me to feel really comfortable and relaxed when talking about intimate parts of my life. We talked about sex education, body confidence, our first orgasm, different sexual experiences and I talked about my experience of vaginismus which was rather emotional. I’m so proud to have been asked to take part with 6 other incredible women sharing their experiences. Although none of us met, I was fortunate to meet Natalie Lee Instagram: @StyleMeSunday at a recent book launch who also took part which was such a lovely surprise, and we had so much to talk about. Sexual Health

To help healthcare professionals, she has written extensively about sexual health issues, offering practical advice and recommending suitable products and other trained professionals who can help.

As a nurse, she worked extensively in medical/cardiac/cancer care, trained as a renal nurse and then as an occupational health nurse, hence her interest in health promotion and preventative care.

She is passionate about people getting the most appropriate advice and treatment from healthcare professionals too.

The health brochure is given out across the UK by many healthcare professionals, including at the Pelvic Health Summit 2016, COSRT conference 2016 as well as by menopause support groups, menopause specialists and GPs, sex therapists, gynaecologists, oncologists, vulval dermatologists and clinical nurse specialists across the UK.

Samantha gave a talk to the Young Breast Cancer group at Guys Hospital in September 2022

She joined the panel at the fabulous Trekstock event Lifting the Lid on Cancer and Menopause on Wednesday 26th February 2020. It was a fantastic event, fun and informative and quite emotional at times. Lauren Mahon ( Girl vs Cancer) was such a brilliant host, so full of energy and incredibly funny, she put all the panel at ease, especially the fabulous Lydia Brain who spoke about having womb cancer at 24 and Nicky Newman who has secondary breast cancer, both incredibly inspirational and amazing women. Dr Louise Newson and Dr Heather Currie spoke about HRT myths and how many women can use local oestrogen, Dr Marie Gerval talked abut her work, ongoing research and how the Daisy Network can support anyone with premature ovarian insufficiency and early menopause.

I was the light entertainment talking about sexual health, intimacy and pleasure, the need for good intimate health, no KY, I think everyone on the panel said this, irritating lube and moisturiser ingredients, feminine hygiene products, simple sex toys, the small steps to take to get back to sex without penetration because low libido is a huge problem.

Lauren was fabulous telling everyone to masturbate and have an orgasm because it really helped her (love this woman!). I gave away numerous organic lubes, condoms and our sex toy raffle was a huge hit! I have been invited to join upcoming panel discussions, which is great. I had several emotional chats with a couple of women whom I hope will get in touch so I can help them. Talking about menopause and sex to this group of young women is so important. I find it really frustrating that they are often left to struggle with their symptoms, no one advises them about sexual intimacy and pleasure, yet this should be a compulsory part of any cancer treatment whatever your age, sexual orientation or gender. It is a privilege to be working with such a fabulous charity, who are filling the gap that other cancer charities and HCPs are missing.

She joined the panel at Trekstock to talk about Lifting the Lid on Sex and Cancer on 28th September 2021 and joined Trekstock for their 5-week menopause course online to talk about sex and menopause on 4th October 2021 . This course was so successful it is being repeated in February 2022
